My 6 year old definitely was starting to feel it about half hour before reaching the peak - but the view bolstered and energized her. However the trails to the east and the southeast from the junction where you headed southwest to Huckleberry Hollow just “ended” due to major flooding and large beaver ponds. Lots of people but everyone considerate of space. Stunning views! Blue Mountain is the highest point in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. The view was fantastic at the top and there were lots of little spots for great pictures and to sit and have a snack while enjoying the sounds of the woods. If you are trying to loop from Warburton Road on the Four wheeler trail you see to the right of your beginning ascent on the proper trail (not the road) you can’t. The moderately difficult hiking trail winds up the mountain past a beaver dam to the peak and then down to Charleston Lake. At Blue Mountain, visitors experience the highest altitude in Leeds & Grenville, and have an opportunity to see Charleston Lake and the surrounding area from the mountain top. Start off on a country path along farmland, then go up a rock face and it is an up and down trail with some tough parts after that. One hot day last week, Railguy and I set out to hike the Blue Mountain Trail at Charleston Lake Provincial Park. Didn’t see any snakes. Woodyard Park is aprox 1 mile South of Charleston on Rt 130. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking. Character I think trail access from Blue Mountain road is relatively new. Once you get into the woods that all changes and the trail becomes a winding forest filled with great elevation changes for any hiker to enjoy. Axis, Charleston Lake Provincial Park has the rugged character of the Canadian Shield. The floating Slim Bay bridge is a highlight of this trail. Charleston Lake offers a variety of excellent birding opportunities for its visitors. There is access to the Orange, Red and Blue trails here from 3 different trail entrances. The first part of the hike is an atv/tractor trail, but even that was pretty nice— if you’re a birder there’s lots of activity in the fields to keep you interested. It makes for an awesome lunch spot for the paddler and hiker.
